FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
- 01Yes- heat pumps can work well in older homes with the right preparation. While modern insulation helps maximise efficiency, we can often recommend upgrades (like improved loft or wall insulation) alongside the installation to get the best results. Our team will assess your property and suggest any enhancements to ensure your system performs at its best.
- 02Modern heat pumps are designed to run quietly-typically around 40- 60 decibels, similar to a modern fridge or quiet conversation. They’re much quieter than traditional boilers or air conditioning units. We'll ensure your unit is correctly positioned and installed to meet noise regulations and keep your home environment peaceful.
- 03In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers grants of up to £7,500 towards the cost of installing an air source or ground source heat pump. We’ll guide you through the eligibility and application process to help you claim what you’re entitled to. You might also qualify for VAT relief and other energy-saving incentives depending on your circumstances.
- 04Yes! Air source heat pumps are designed to extract heat from the air even in temperatures as low as -15°C, making them suitable for year-round use in the UK. Ground source heat pumps are even more stable in winter, as underground temperatures remain consistent. We only recommend systems proven to perform in real- world British weather.
- 05In most cases, no. Installing an air source heat pump is usually considered permitted development in England and Wales, meaning planning permission isn't required. There are some exceptions, like listed buildings or conservation areas, which we’ll help you navigate. Ground source systems typically don’t require permission either, but we’ll confirm everything as part of our site survey.
